Sedley, Wiater, and Walker describe philosophical schools debating canon- ical texts under the names of founding figures. Dionysius’ letter essays give ver- batim quotations of those authoritative classical authors (Isocrates), including historians (Thucydides). Further, they disagree about which classical authors are canonical, which were authoritative, Plato, Aristotle, Isocrates, and/or Thu- cydides? Many 21st century classicists assume that Thucydides is the Greek his- torian, a choice that the colonized Greek Dionysius opposed. Similarly, some Judeans assumed that the Mosaic Levitical laws were the center of Torah, and that a Levitical style of life would preserve their identity; Paul disagreed. However, Luke wrote attempting to reconcile Moses, Isaiah, Mary, Jesus, Peter and Paul, while living under Rome.
